Happy Knit In Public Day!

World Wide Knit In Public Day was started by Danielle Landes in 2005, as a way to bring knitters together and to encourage knitters to knit in public. Many knitters have no problem knitting in public, but others aren't quite so into it. The idea is that even if you're knitting alone on a park bench somewhere, you're not really alone, there's hundreds of knitters doing the exact same thing at the same time. This is a way to help knitters feel good about their hobby, and maybe introduce more people to the craft. Another part of WWKIP is that one thing can unite people of all different backgrounds. Help break down barriers, meet new local knitters, and have fun.

Today, is a FREE neighborhood festival called WESTfest .

Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA Contingent!

When: Saturday, June 10th at 11am and later at 4pm.

Where: During the poetry readings at 11 am and during Elliott Brood at 4pm at the main stage, at Richmond Road and Golden. Come and go as you please!

What to bring: Your knitting of course! For your comfort, bring a chair, a blanket or umbrella. There are port-a-potties throughout the premises. There are also places to eat and drink but bring your own if you'd rather have a pic-nic. Bring your kids, pets and knitting projects.

I hope to meet some new Ottawa knitters today!

PM update:

The talent was there, the weather was not. It was 9 C all day long and miserable.

A total of 4 people came out to knit in public, and let me tell you, when you're alone out there with loads of cool rockers out there, it is hard to pull out your needles and knit. But I did it. And I'm glad.

Thanks to the girls who came out, see y'all Tuesday.

Aw, I'm sorry. I got there about 11:45, which I already knew was much, much too late. I had my knitting with me but just carried it around as I visited the rest of the fest.

Ah, Lissa, it would've been great to meet you. Me and my gal Lesley were way in the front, --you couldn't miss us we were full of colour. Me in my electric blue raincoat and red tam, Lesley in her green raincoat and super bright fuschia tam -- knitting and listening to Anne Marie MacDonald. It was good.

At least it was a good weekend to be sick. Not only are so few people sick in June, but who ever wears winter scarves and winter hats in June?!!!
